Camo Portfolio Wallet - Italian Veg-tan Leather

Camo Portfolio Wallet - Italian Veg-tan Leather

This slim wallet is carefully crafted from Italian Buttero and Camo Vachetta, two great Italian vegetable tanned leathers. The design is inspired by a portfolio, opening up to present an array of neatly organized items.

On the right is a card pocket assembly with a thumb slot for easily and quickly accessing your most used card, and works best when a smooth card (driver's license, ID, etc) is placed beneath it, as it lessens friction. Behind this assembly is room for many more cards, business cards, or folded receipts. On the left is another card slot over-top a pocket for half-folded cash. By utilizing this design, payload is maximized while maintaining a slim profile, and still providing great ease of use.

The exterior of this wallet is a hefty 5oz Camo Vachetta leather in red with a medium-soft temper, it easily folds, and makes for a very comfortable pocket feel. Italian veg-tan is highly regarded for the depth of color it acquires with use, and over time this leather will darken and grow richer.

The interior is comprised of red Italian Buttero, and has a firm temper, making it perfect for card pockets. This is a very unique leather, especially in terms of aging. Having no coating or finish applied, in the beginning, it scratches quite easily. With abrasion, the oils from your hands, and various environmental factors, the scratches will begin to fade as the leather darkens and is further smoothed by use. Those initial scratches become the base for the eventual patina that will develop, and really add an interesting visual depth.

All Vulture items are born from the leather. These leathers are scavenged from around the world, then tanned with extracts of bark and liquored with animal fats inside wooden barrels, dyed with aniline (transparent) colorings, air dried, and polished.

Each item begins by gauging the temper and properties of a new leather and then creating a design to highlight and showcase these unique properties. Often times, I will pair leathers of similar tempers for nice visual and textural contrast.
